History in the Making

'On November 4th, on November 4th, we must stand up and say: Eight is enough.'

To echo the thoughts of so many others, I felt last night and this morning that I was a part of something. Something important. I felt like I was watching history form and take place right in front of my weary eyes.

'It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment change has come to America.'

I'm uninformed. I'm British. I'm only 17 years of age. But when he speaks, it makes me believe in humanity. Again and again and again. Change is coming. America has grown up and it has united in the face of adversity. From this day forth, we start the upward climb.

'I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it's been done in America for 221 years -- block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.'

The air feels different. The thought of a brighter tomorrow is no longer just a pipe dream, but an achievable goal. One which might not happen quickly. That might not happen smoothly. But it will happen.

Why?

Because one man taught not just a nation, but the entire world to come together to say three words.

'Yes, we can.'
